This ARC resetter will reset ARC chips versions 5.0 and 6.0. These ARC chips simulate the identity of the original cartridges and can be used interchageably with OEM cartridges.
The refillable cartridges are equipped with Auto Reset Chips (ARC) that can reset themselves when the chip counter goes down to empty. The reset process requires that they MUST reach an empty level first and the only way for this to occur is to have the printer print until this level is reached.
This wait process can be inconvenient since one cartridge may run out during a print session and even during printing and sometimes this may result in a wasted sheet of expensive photo paper. There was a time we had to put up with this aspect as part of the Chip Game with Epson. Having 8 cartridges in the printer also meant that if you refilled one and it reset, there was a chance another color that was next lowest will require resetting within a few prints.
There is now an alternative where we can force the reset of ALL colors at the same time using an external resetter. We would then refill and reset ALL cartridges at the same time thus allowing the printer to have a completely "new" and full set all at once. The benefits are significant as you can now enjoy long print sessions with no attending to cartridges one at a time.
The other significant benefit is that it will waste less ink. Each time ONE cartridge is reset or a new one appears to the printer, the printer will perform a head clean. That means for 8 cartridges that are changed one at a time, you will see 8 head cleanings by the time all are changed. By refilling and resetting ALL at once this is reduced to ONE time. This will waste less ink.
The final benefit is that less wasted ink will result in less filling up of the waste ink pad. When a head clean is performed, ink ends up in the waste ink pad and eventually this becomes full. By using a resetter, we extend the life of this or reduce this filling by up to 1/8 of the normal process. This will result in dramatically extending the time before the printer will advise you that the waste ink pad is nearing its end of life.
